| Care-by-parent Units |
 |
Seriously ill children sometimes no longer
require on-ward treatment, but still need hospital care.
To allow parents to be near to, and to assist in the care
of children in such situations, Ronald McDonald House
Charities contributed $1.1 million to the first Care-By-Parent
Unit at Sydney Children’s Hospital.
Opened in 1998, the unit features 12 rooms, and a seven-room
parent retreat where parents can stay when their child
is in intensive care. It also features a Sleep Studies
Unit for the monitoring of children’s sleep patterns
as an aid in the diagnosis and treatment of certain illnesses. |
